The Barr Osarodion Ogie trip to London a few weeks ago to exchange ideas with Asue Support Group, strategically and financially, is a welcome development that must be sustained.
I hold this view not necessarily because I’ve lived overseas for years, but in light of the ongoing debate regarding the non-inclusion of the Diasporan Group or its role in the just-released campaign structure.
The trivialization of the meeting held in London between Barr Osarodion Ogie and the Asue Support Group in the UK is most uncharitable and unfortunate. Travelling overseas to meet with your supporters to apprise them of what Dr Asue Ighodalo stands for, does not by any means diminish the time and resources devoted to reaching out to voters and grassroots supporters at home by the home-based Support Team. It’s complimentary.
The majority of these gentlemen overseas, even though they are not at home, are as influential as any of us in the social mobilization of our grassroots supporters, as well as the undecided voters.
Some of these guys, with a single phone call in Europe or North America, can rally the men and women in their idumus (neck of the woods) and tell them who to vote for or how to vote.
This is not a probability or likely occurrence; it is already happening on the ground for years. I know a few friends in the US who have been dictating the voting pattern or culture in their various communities for many years.
For instance, an American-based gentleman who singlehandedly installed Solar Panels for the electrification of all the streets in his idumu will certainly have a voice in who gets the vote in his community.
Please, the Barr Osarodion Ogie UK trip is not a wasted adventure, and I strongly suggest it is adopted as a continuous exercise. Besides its monetary benefits, it is packed with tremendous elector values.
Please, gentlemen, give your suggestions on how to mobilise the grassroots without disparaging other electoral measures or condemning well-thought and productive
initiatives. No idea is stupid as long as it’s devoted to maximizing Dr Asue and Barr Osarodion’s electoral strength at the polls.
